How to Dress for Photos + You = Contest Time!!!

I get emails quite often asking me how I get my clients to dress the way they do.  If asked, here is what I tell my clients about clothing choices.

1. For family or couples pics the key is blend but DO NOT match.

2.  For family photos, pick a color pallet of 3-5 colors and tell everyone to stick with those colors.  It’s amazing how things come together.

3.  Dont do all solids OR all patterns but mix and match it up.

4.  Patterns do not necessarily have to match.  Get creative

5.  This is a BIG one.  Accessorize!!!  Boots.  Hats.  Jewelry.  Etc.

6.  Go to your favorite clothing store.  For example Anthopologie.  Look at their magazines.  Look at their models.  Pay special attention to how they group clothing together.  These companies pay their stylists BIG money to put these clothes together the way they do and you wont go wrong by being inspired by that.   For kids go into the Gap Kids store and look on their walls.  Notice the way they layer the clothes.  It might not be what you would do on a normal basis but for photos IT WORKS!!!

7.  Go a little bit out there.  Meaning, if you play it safe on your first clothing choice and you have the option to change wardrobe (which of course you always do with me) get crazy.  Wear somthing slightly costume-y.  Just be sure to have a clear theme and make sure that I am in on it so I can bring the appropriate props and take you to the appropriate locations to make the outfits work and not look goofy.

Now it’s contest time!!!   Here are the rules:

1. Put together an outfit/outfits for an individual/family.   Take a snapshot either IN the clothes or laid out so I can see what we are working with.  If you send a pic of just the outfits alone then you must include a pic of the person/people who will be in the outfits for the shoot.  Dont worry, these photos will not be posted anywhere.  They are just for me to get a clear idea for the shoot I choose.

2.  You must be willing to come to Lehi Utah area for the shoot.

3.  You must be willing to sign a photo release.

4.  You must be a fan of Darla Roze Photography on Facebook.  If you arent, it’s an easy fix.

5.  If the shoot is for an individual, that person must be over the age of 3.

And that’s it!

The winner will receive a free photo shoot and a $150 print credit.

Applicant deadline is March 2nd.  One week from today.

Just a few pics to get you thinking but please get creative!!!

Tanner & Margot

This shoot, start to finish, was about 30 minutes.  After rescheduling a few times for weather issues we finally just went for it even tho it was still raining.  This time of year we just have to take what we can get.  We were lucky it wasnt snowing I guess.

Logan at 5.5

I am working really hard to get caught up on my editing.  I am so close I can almost feel it.  And then I am hoping to get caught up on my kids albums.  I was at my friends house the other day and she has stacks and stacks of albums of snapshot albums of her kids.  Guess how many I have…ZERO NONE NADA.  Rio is  five and I havent printed his albums yet.  My thing is that I dont feel right working on my own photos when my clients are waiting for photos and albums from me.  So, I am hoping by midnight tonight I can be caught up. And then tomorrow it’s my time….until my photoshoot tomorrow afternoon.

Jeff & Melissa

So I wanted to post one or two from Jeff and Melissa’s engagement shoot in Park City.  I meant to get these up earlier this week but didnt.  I am going to try to do a full post soon (when it’s not midnight and my bed isnt calling me).

Cutie

If you have kids you need to check out this site.  These free games are so dang cute.  I do have to say that I bet girls will like them alittle more than boys.  My son thinks that if he is not making something explode then it’s not fun.   Anyway, just thought I would share my cute find.  Of course I will not be mentioning how much time I have wasted playing them.
